Back in OKC

We have made it back into OKC and the Tinker AFB Campground, but not before stopping off in the Dallas area to visit our daughter and grandsons. We must report that both are doing great!!! We have found though, the oldest is quite the little character and definitely has his own personality. We loved spending a couple days there, but a lass we needed to get back to OKC for some appointments.

Arriving at the campground we were greeted with a couple of expected and unexpected events. First was, as you can see, our left front jack is leaking fluid. It did this a year or so ago, but seemed to fix itself until last month when it started leaking again and has not stopped. One of our other jacks also leaks occasionally. So it looks like we are going to have to get them fixed. We have the ball rolling on this and our RV Repair guy here is going to take care of it for us.
Next was the weather, WOW, welcome back to Oklahoma!!! Within in a few hours of our arrival we were in the Tornado Shelter riding one out. Lucky for us it did not hit the base, but as you may have seen on the news, it hit the town of Moore again just south of us. We did gut some serious hail, but escaped with no damage to the rig or Jeep.
Looks like we'll be staying put for a month while we take care of some doctor stuff, and since the weather is getting better (warmer), going to look at getting a project or two done (more on that later).
Ok, that's all for now, take care and we'll see you back here again next time....................

Luck Was on Our Side

We left San Antonio on Sunday as planned, for the short  trip up to Austin. We arrived in Austin (Buda) and the only RV Park in town was full so we decided to Dry Dock in the Cabela's Parking Lot for the night. We were there to visit Sheryl's brother, so I went out to unhook the Jeep and found this..................

The top picture looks pretty normal, however, looking closer, we found the pin holding the the tow bar to the Jeep was almost out. How in the heck did that happen we wondered???? Well come to find out one of us forgot to close the safety pin locking the main pin in. Somehow the safety pin worked it's way out and then the main pin started to work it's way to the side and eventually out. Had that happened the Jeep would have come loose from the tow bar on one side causing major damage if not an accident!!!
The reason for this post is to remind everyone reading and myself to double check everything before departure, especially your safety gear. Sheryl and I most always double check each other, however for some reason we didn't this time and a catastrophe almost happened. Thank goodness someone was looking out for us!!!
We had a good visit with Sheryl's Brother and are now in Dallas to visiting our daughter and newest Grandson before heading back to OKC for a bit.
That's all for now, and until next time............................................

A Trip into Texas

First stop in our search for warmer weather was to visit our daughter and new Grandson in Dallas. What a precious and perfect little guy and a great addition to the family. We could only stay a couple of days, but we got all the snuggle time we could with the little guy!!!

After that it was south to the Hill Country and the crappy weather just seemed to follow us, cold, overcast and rainy was the theme for the week. We did get to visit with Sheryl's brother in Austin, but mainly we just hunkered down and stayed warm in the rig.

 Guadalupe River State Park

 Abandon Homestead

After  a week of gloomy weather in the Hill Country an escape was in order. We set our sights on Corpus Christi and the Texas Coast. Well as our luck would have it, the same gloomy weather followed us and adding insult to injury, the wind constantly screamed. Looking at the forecast it seemed there was no let up in sight.............time to get out of dodge!!!

Not wanting to head northbound yet, still a few weeks before we need to be back in OKC, San Antonio looked promising for better warmer weather. We packed up the rig and pointed her that way. We have been in San Antonio and Lackland AFB now for 2 weeks and the weather has been much better, finally!!! We spent most of our time here just soaking up the warmth. Between Sheryl and I, we've been here more times than we care to count and have seen and done most everything we care to do here.

However we did check out the new Military Working Dog Monument and the Security Forces Museum here on base.

While visiting the museum, I got to talking with the tour guide and through our conversation I found out he was the first USAF K-9 Handler deployed to Vietnam. We had a great conversation and when he found out I was also a K-9 Handler he honored me with one of his coins. For those not familiar with the Military Coin Tradition, they were given to unit member as a sign of comradely. They still hold that significance but also are given out as a sign of respect or accomplishment between members.

So that should catch us up for now, we were going to leave San Antonio today, but the rains came last night and will be with us all day today. We put off leaving until tomorrow when it will be much better for travelling. So until next time.............................

Disenchanted

Well, looks like it's time to play catch up, I've let the blog go for a while after becoming a bit disenchanted with it. Sometimes it seems a waste of time to do something when very few people read or appreciate it, especially the people you began it for. But then I got a email from a new reader last night who really enjoyed reading it and I also remembered how many times I look back on it myself, So with new inspiration, we'll pick up from here........
