GeoCaching a New Hobby

OKC, OK.

Our daughter Kaileigh called us yesterday and asked if we wanted to go GeoCaching with her and Clara. Well we never pass up a chance to spend time with Clara, so of course we said yes. Now we have been out with others a couple of times and watched as they did it, but we never actually got to involved with it. Now Kaileigh and Josh have really taken to the hobby and with today's smart phones you don't even need a separate GPS device. She came by the rig, picked us up and off we went to a local recreation area. Once we arrived it was 100 yard walk through the woods to our first cache. It took a bit of looking but Sheryl found it pretty quick. As you can see she is pretty proud of her first find.

Now the first one we found was medium sized, the rest are what they call micro caches, which can be pretty small and much harder to find. Luckily some stand out a little more than others. We loved the humor in the frog one.

And some can be pretty hard to find, I got lucky and just happened to spot the zip ties holding this one to the branch. What can make it even more difficult is your GPS will usually only get you within a few square yards of the cache, then it's up to your sharp eye to find it, much easier said than done, but that's part of the fun.

If this sound like something you would like to try, we found a free app for your smart phone called C:geo, you can find it in your app store, just do a search for geocaching. The app is linked to Geocaching.com, and you need a login to use it. Go to Geocaching .com and and make yourself a user name (it's free) then go and download the free app, login and you are ready to go! The great thing is the app will locate all the caches near to your location. It also may get you out to places you never thought of going and help you explore the area better. It's a lot of fun, so give it a try!

Update, my toe in healing nicely, however the MRI I had done on my neck shows it's pretty jacked up. Still waiting for my primary doctor to decide if it's bad enough for referral to a Neurosurgeon to just continue with Physical Therapy. So the waiting game begins. Physical Therapy is helping with Sheryl's back issues, which it great!

So that's it for now, it's just been living life and doctor appointments for the last couple of weeks. With the Geocaching were going to try and get out and about alittle more now. So until next time, take care and keep lovin you life as we do ours!!!

  1. Just don't strain your neck looking for all those caches! They can hide in some pretty weird places. :c)

  3. We have been GeoCaching since 2003. We love it. It takes you to many places which you would not otherwise visit.
The best part is that there are caches in almost every place you might visit. Enjoy the hunt!
